Meeting Tim Ferriss part two

Tim Ferriss' 4-Hour Work Week launch party was held in Sydney on Friday night. While I read the book upon its US release I was interested to meet the author and gauge the Aussie response to his 4-Hour Work Week message.

Around 150 guests filled the Hotel CBD's Jam room and the drinks flowed freely as we chatted to Tim and threw questions at him about his lifestyle design philosophy. Interestingly, many of the questions Tim fielded were technology and web related, rather than travel and freedom

Of course the contentious topic of Geo-arbitrage and outsourcing his work to "India" were discussed.

All in all it was an interesting night and Tim came across as a gracious host. He is friendly, enthusiastic and informative.

I have found a couple of links to other people who were there for the event with more details and photos.

The 4-Hour Work Week has been an inspiration to me and helped spark my improved lifestyle. Since reading the book 12 months ago I have travelled extensively within Australia, South-east Asia and the USA. I have managed 10 weeks of holidays in that time with another trip strating this week to take the 13 months total to 11. As Tim points out, all this can be done while successfully owning a business.

Meeting Tim Ferriss

I have been a little slow with the posts this month due to a lot of changes I am currently implementing to my business. Some short term time investment for long term financial and freedom gains. More on this soon.

In the meantime I am excited to say that i am meeting Tim Ferriss, author of the amazing 4 Hour Work Week, tonight. Tim is holding an Australian launch party in Sydney and I am on the door list.

Tim has been an inspiration to me and his book has been a great help in designing a better life.

I will let you know how the party was in the next few days.

Following the success of our recent assault on the Amazon sales charts, the Age of Conversation team is now busy working towards a second book. The new one is tentatively titled, Age of Conversation, Why don't people get it? and this time it combines the talent and advice of 275 of the worlds best marketers, thinkers and advertising writers.

The only relevance to the book has to this blog is that I am once again honored to be one of the authors in this innovative publishing exercise.

Meet the rest of the authors here:

Social Media Amazon Bum Rush

In 2007, more than 100 authors - from 10 countries and four continents - joined forces to write The Age of Conversation, a book about emerging media and marketing.  I was one of those co-authors.

Social Computing Magazine called it an “e-blockbuster.” Business Week said “Little did we know that social media would soon begin to tie us together digitally in ways that we are only just now beginning to understand. That’s why a new book called The Age of Conversation may be important to comprehending what’s going on in our society, economy and even polity today.”

If you don’t own a copy of the original, please consider ordering one from March 29 from this Amazon link. Dozens of bloggers around the net are promoting that purchase date in order to push the book up the Amazon charts. As a reminder, all book proceeds go to Variety, the children’s charity.

Being published was one of the goals I wrote about on my life-list last year. This effort was to contribute one chapter to the book and I will be doing so again soon in the 2008 version of Age of Conversation. But I still intend to have my own book published and am steadily making plans to do do so.

Meanwhile the team-effort continues with my fellow AoC authors.

The Age of Conversation

Aoc_book
In my last post I mentioned that I had been fortunate enough to be invited to contribute to an innovative new collaborative book called The Age of Conversation.

I am happy to report that the book is selling strongly after just 10 days on the market.

Lulu.com has the all three versions of the book in it's Top 10 this week (positions 2, 4, 8) proving that our launch campaign has successfully kicked off sales.

You can order the book HERE.

All proceeds are to be donated to Variety, The Children's Charity.

Goals Important Part of Perfect Life

Aoc_book
My quest for a perfect life isn't just about creating more idle time so I can pursue a hedonistic lifestyle. For me, it's creating time to chase dreams, to challenge myself and rise above the ordinary.

In fact, for someone who has been striving to minimise "work time" and maximise "free time" I have been extraordinarily busy of late...but with very satisfying results.

The last month has seen me realise a few dreams and be involved in some very worthy causes; not for personal profit, but for personal satisfaction.

Inspirational Lifestyle Reading

4hwwbook2
In my search for the Perfect Life I began hearing about a new
book called the 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss.  I discovered it was just about to be released in the USA and wasn't available in Australia yet, so I went straight to Amazon and ordered it. The books website and Timothy's blog just made the book irresistable. It arrived a few days later (priority post...I couldn't wait to read it) and I devoured it immediately.

Inspirational Business Reading

Focusbook
More than a decade ago I began reading business and marketing books by Al Ries
and Jack Trout. These two marketing legends turned the industry on its head in the 70'd and 80's with seminal publications such as "Positioning", "Focus" and "22 Immutable Laws of Marketing". I have applied their philosphies to businesses, my own and my clients', ever since.

"Focus" by Al Ries in particular has been a source of great inspiration and guidance to me in business. It's basic premise is that focussed businesses are generally more successful than unfocussed businesses. Time and again it is proven to be true.
